Selkie Explorers Sailing
Come sailing aboard Selkie, a unique, 15m aluminium cruising yacht with lifting keel, designed to go anywhere, do anything. Already tried and tested in Antarctic and tropical waters, she is now based on the Isle of Eigg where her owner and skipper Celia Bull runs a croft. As a climber and sailor, Celia has spent her life exploring remote and beautiful areas. We offer year-round sailing trips in Scotland for the adventurous, the creative and the curious voyager.
There's an exciting variety of trips programmed for 2018. Winter holds the promise of spectacular backdrops for our Wintersails. Daytime hours, though short, are full of dramatic low-angle light. Last season, our guests enjoyed moonlit walks, starlit sails and breath-taking views. Already this year Scotland has witnessed some stunning displays of the northern lights.
If the weather predictions prove correct, the experienced adventurer has the opportunity to enjoy skiing and winter climbing in remote locations accessible only by boat. Both skipper and crew have a wealth of experience, both at sea and in the mountains, which we are happy to share to help you realise your dreams. But we don't like to be cold, so besides the warm welcome, there are radiators in every cabin and a big refleks stove in the saloon.
During the spring and summer months come with us to explore the remoter, wilder isles. For many, a trip to St. Kilda is the goal. We visit many isolated, beautiful anchorages, teeming with marine wildlife, including some of the biggest bird and seal colonies in Europe. Trips will depart from Mallaig, and are usually five days, finishing with a final night on Eigg and a visit to the skipper's croft, where much of what you eat is raised and grown.
This summer, Selkie has two exciting expeditions planned. The first voyage is split into three charters. We sail from Mallaig to Scalloway in the Shetland Islands, and plan to visit Fair Isle along the way. Next, Foula, the St Kilda of the north, is in our sights, and possibly a sail around the north side of the Shetland Isles, before heading back to Eigg, again via Fair Isle. Join us for the whole expedition or for just a leg of it.
Our second expedition is a 10-day circumnavigation of the Highlands and Islands, via the Caledonian Canal - call it the NCM 500.
During the Scottish 2018 summer holidays (30/6 to 20/8), our main cruising area is around the Small Isles, Skye, Knoydart and Ardnamurcan. We run trips between one and three days long, and are experts at devising itineraries for family as Selkie is owned and run by mother/son team Celia and Dylan. Dylan has spent more than half his life living on Selkie, and many a rock pool and beach has been explored. He knows how to find the coolest places for kids to be entertained, can lead an expedition to the best river slides and coasteering spots, and create feats of engineering and artistic sculpture on remote hebridean beaches.
We have some new exciting voyages in 2018 collaborating with some wonderful folk to bring you:
